Entry Road Improvement Project

Paving to begin June 29

  • Paving of the entry and lower ranch roads is set to begin on June 29.
  • The road will remain open.
  • One lane sections of up to 300 feet long will require one-way traffic, so there may be short delays waiting for opposite-direction traffic to pass.
April Schedule

-Exposing and verifying the condition of the electric utility trench to be done on Tuesday, April 7th. Decisions about final requirements for trench stabilization will be done as a result.

-Work will begin on High Aspen Drive on Monday, April 13th. The initial work effort will be milling of the existing asphalt surface and removal of most of the millings to the parking lot next to barn for temporary storage.

As with the work on the Entry Road last year, there will be traffic control and signage to warn all users all the construction work.

Initial 2020 work
Our contractor has determined that with appropriate social distance protocols, construction work can begin on the road project under the current corona virus restrictions.

We are targeting Tuesday afternoon, April 7 to "pothole" the existing electric and telephone conduits on the road above the clubhouse.  This will involve digging small trenches in the road to the depth of the conduits, verifying the depth of the conduits and examining the soil conditions in the trenches.  The trenches will be refilled immediately after inspecting them.

Planned 2020 work
Here is a quick update on the state of the plans for road repairs for 2020.  We are looking at a start of work of May 1st, with some possible localized pre-work (i.e. verify Holy Cross power conduit depths) prior to that. In addition to paving the repaired access road, the work for 2020 includes:
  • Repairing High Aspen Drive from the Clubhouse parking lot to a few hundred feet above Ford’s (Lot 16) driveway – total length is around 3000’
  • Remove the concrete slabs currently surrounding two utility vaults
  • Pulverize the current asphalt – use some of this as (recycled) new road base material
  • Excavate (partial depth) the path of the underground utilities, and remove the material from the site (this “path” in the current road has been chronically sinking)
  • Back fill the trench using material and process approved by SGM
  • Apply a new layer of asphalt – for this stretch of road, and the Access Road!
  • The parking area near the barn will be used to temporarily store road base material
Completed 2019  Work
The entry road from CR 115 to the High Aspen Ranch has been repaired, including:
  • Fixing the drainage ditches alongside the road
  • Improving existing and adding new culverts
  • Adding concrete drain pans along sections of the road that cannot be ditched
  • Churning up the current gravel material to augment the road base
  • Deeply digging and building up areas where soft spots existed
  • Adding a thin layer of gravel – establishing a crown to the road
Additionally, the parking lot in front of the barn has been re-graded to improve its drainage.

Due to weather conditions and asphalt availability, we were not able to pave the entry road.  The paving will be completed as soon as possible this spring.
